Belt scale is a measuring device that measures the weight of materials on the conveyor belt during the operation of a belt conveyor, and automatically calculates the total weight of the transported materials within a certain period of time.

A belt scale generally consists of a weighing bridge, a speed sensor, a weighing sensor, and a microcomputer instrument. The weighing sensor is installed on the weighing bridge, and the length of the weighing bridge is the effective weighing and measuring section of the belt scale. The supporting roller of the belt conveyor in the measuring section is the supporting roller of the belt scale.

The number of rollers on the belt scale is an important parameter and a key component of the belt scale. The number of rollers also affects the configuration of weighing sensors and the measurement accuracy of the belt scale, and is an important reference for distinguishing the type of belt scale. Generally speaking, a belt scale with only one set of rollers is called a single roller belt scale, while two or more sets of rollers are called a multi roller belt scale.

Now that you understand what a multi roller belt scale is, let's take a look at its common structural types and characteristics:

(1) There are more rollers, longer weighing areas, and more weighing sensors that can be configured, resulting in more accurate and stable measurements.

(2) The weighing bridge of the multi roller belt scale is divided into lever type and suspended type. The typical structure of a lever type multi roller belt scale is ICS-17A and ICS-17B. The former consists of four rollers and two load weighing sensors on a double bar, while the latter consists of two rollers and two load weighing sensors on a single bar.

The typical representatives of suspended multi roller belt scales are the ICS-14A belt scale and the ICS-14B belt scale. The former is a fully suspended 4-roller and 4-load weighing sensor, while the latter is a fully suspended 3-roller and 4-load weighing sensor.

After understanding the multi roller belt scale, let's talk about the matrix belt scale. Matrix belt scale is a new type of belt scale structure developed in recent years. Strictly speaking, it is also a type of multi roller belt scale. However, it is different from the traditional leveraged belt scale. Its main structure and characteristics include:

(1) Adopting a minimalist structure without crossbeams or levers, two sets of weighing rollers are paired with four high-precision load weighing sensors to form a weighing module unit. Multiple units are independent of each other and form a weighing matrix according to continuous installation and a new calculation model.

(2) A malfunction in a weighing unit module or a malfunctioning weighing sensor will not affect the operation of other weighing sensors and units.

(3) The force changes caused by the belt effect can cancel each other out inside the weighing unit, reducing the impact of belt tension and other changes on weighing measurement.

(4) If in the future, due to changes in production processes, the weighing area needs to be extended to improve measurement accuracy, the weighing units can be flexibly added without the need to replace the entire belt scale.

(5) Basically eliminates the daily cleaning and maintenance work of the belt scale, and can maintain high precision and stability stably without long-term maintenance.

(6) For belt conveyors with stronger adaptability to harsh working conditions that lever type belt scales cannot meet, matrix type belt scales can be considered, such as belt conveyors with a tilt angle greater than 20 °.

From the introduction and analysis of multi roller belt scales and matrix belt scales, it can be seen that the latter has different design concepts and structural types from the former. Under the same working conditions and application environment, it is undeniable that matrix belt scales have higher measurement accuracy, more stable performance, stronger adaptability, and less maintenance workload than multi roller belt scales. However, as for a simple generalization, it is not entirely correct. Many times, on the basis of meeting customer application requirements, choosing a lever type belt scale will have a higher cost-effectiveness.
